With a convenient location near Sarasota homes for sale and spectacular scenery to explore, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens offer unique gardens for every interest. Kids will love exploring the Ann Goldstein Children's Rainforest Garden, where they'll discover colorful plants, caves, a waterfall, an Amazon village, and even a field research station. Adults are sure to fall in love with the Conservatory, where you can see stunning tropical plants from around the world, including orchids and bromeliads.

The towering banyan trees in the Banyan Grove were planted 100 years ago by the Selby family, who once lived here, and have grown to epic proportions. The Schimmel Wedding Pavilion is a popular place for wedding ceremonies and a wide variety of other special events. The quiet tranquility of the Bamboo Garden, Fern Garden, and Epiphyte Garden provide the perfect settings for relaxation after you've explored the rest of the grounds.

Get Involved with Classes and Special Events

Getting involved is easier than ever, with a busy schedule of classes and events nearly every day of the year to keep you coming back. Popular classes for adults include Noshing in Nature food classes, natural art classes, Yoga in the Gardens, and classes themed around big holidays throughout the year. There are also big annual events to look forward to, like Cocktails at the Cottage, the Garden Music Series, Orchid Evenings, New Year's Eve festivities, and Halloween at Selby Gardens.

Learn More about the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens

Named for local resident and gardening enthusiast Marie Selby, the land where the Botanical Gardens are located was once the Selby family property and was bequeathed "for the enjoyment of the general public" in 1973. Marie and her husband Henry's passion for gardening has been carried forward into the present day, with the Botanical Gardens keeping the life's work of the Selby family alive for all to see. The two Marie Selby Botanical Gardens locations now cover 45 acres, featuring rare tropical plants from around the globe along with one of the world's largest living collections of native Florida plant life.

A New Second Campus at Historic Spanish Point

The main Marie Selby Gardens location has been such a success that a second campus at Historic Spanish Point was opened in 2020. Located about a 10-minute drive south of the main Sarasota campus, the Historic Spanish Point location delves deep into more than 5,000 years of botanical and archaeological history in the region. The Historic Spanish Point campus is located on one of the Gulf Coast's best-preserved prehistoric archaeological sites, making it a popular destination for both plant lovers and history buffs.
