One Saturday a month De Soto National Memorial will feature Food Truck Saturdays. Come out on January 17th were we will feature the Chi-Phi the taste of two Cities, and Wal Pow food trucks from 11:00 until 2:00. Known for his expressive use of color, gestural brushwork, and emotionally charged compositions, Stephens' paintings explore the tension between abstraction and representation. His dynamic surfaces reveal a deep engagement with process and intuition, resulting in works that resonate with both personal introspection and universal human experience. Rooted in a lifelong dedication to painting, Stephens' practice reflects the evolution of an artist who continually pushes the boundaries of visual language. This exhibition brings together a selection of current and past works that highlight the artist's ability to distill complex emotions into powerful, atmospheric imagery. As both a respected member of Sarasota's creative community and a proud Ringling graduate, Stephens exemplifies the enduring impact of the College's alumni, contributing meaningfully to the region's vibrant cultural landscape.

This historical group exhibition revisits the creative legacy of the Sarasota Colony—a vibrant and visionary community of artists who helped shape the region's post-war cultural identity and laid the groundwork for Sarasota's emergence as a thriving arts destination. Drawn to the Gulf Coast for its climate, light, and Ringling School of Art, these painters, printmakers, and educators established studios, taught classes, and exhibited widely, fostering a collaborative spirit that flourished between 1945 and 1965. Origins is a visual tribute to this remarkable era—highlighting the innovation, camaraderie, and enduring influence of the colony's members. FEATURED ARTISTS INCLUDE: Syd Solomon, Helen Sawyer, Elden Rowland, Shirley Clement, George Kaiser, Martha and William Hartman, Judy Axe, Robert Chase, Jerry Farnsworth, Harold Slingerland, Al Parker, Hilton and Dorothy Leech, Eugene White, Loran Wilford, Ben Stahl, Sidney Laufman, Thornton Utz, Glenna Finch, Roy Nichols, Nike Parton, Robert Larsen, and more. Together, their work captures the experimental energy and pioneering spirit of a group whose contributions continue to echo throughout Sarasota's art scene today. Through their vibrant, diverse works, this exhibition captures a pivotal moment in Sarasota's cultural evolution—one that continues to resonate and inspire the region's contemporary art community.

Music by Giacomo Puccini, Libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa (February 14 - March 28, 2026) Poetry, poverty, and passion in 1830s Bohemian Paris. Puccini's most beloved opera and one of the most performed in the repertoire, La bohème takes us through the streets of the Latin Quarter in 19th century Paris when the poor embroideress Mimì has a fateful chance encounter with the poet Rodolfo. Laugh and cry as a group of friends struggle and celebrate through the Bohemian lifestyle and experience the heartbreak of a lover's impending demise.

Music by Franz Lehár, Libretto by Viktor Léon and Leo Stein (February 21 - March 27, 2026) Money, mischief and matchmaking in 1905 Parisian aristocracy. Wealthy widow Hanna Glawari is descended upon by an array of willing suitors from Parisian society. But plans go awry when Hanna's past paramour enters the ballroom. One of the most successful romantic operettas, The Merry Widow is the perfect blend of comedy, dance and unforgettable music.  

Music by Giuseppe Verdi, Libretto by Salvadore Cammarano (March 7 - 29, 2026) Serenades, sieges, and family secrets in 15th century Spain. One of Verdi's most popular works, Il trovatore unfolds with the telling of a fiery execution that takes place during Count de Luna's childhood, an event that sets him in vengeful pursuit of the gypsy woman, Azucena. Unrequited love for the noblewoman Leonora and hatred for her lover, the troubadour Manrico, drive him to murderous passions. The story comes full circle, ending with another tragic execution, in this sprawling medieval melodrama.

Music and Libretto by Carlisle Floyd (March 14 - 28, 2026) Sin, a loss of innocence, and repentance in the 1950s rural Tennessee. A re-telling of the Book of Susannah, the story follows a pretty, innocent young woman as she falls under the jealous scrutiny of her rural Appalachian community. When the Reverend Blitch appears at her door offering redemption, tragic events unfold that force Susannah to take a stand for her dignity. Honoring the 100th anniversary of Carlisle Floyd's birth and in the state of its premiere, Susannah is a timeless, gripping tale and one of the most popular American operas.

Loveland Center Bradenton is thrilled to announce its Disco Bingo event, happening Monday, March 30, 2026, starting at 6:00pm at Gold Coast Eagle Distributors! This exciting evening promises fun, music, lite bites, soft drinks and adult beverages, bingo, prizes, and raffles, all in support of individuals in our community with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) who attend Loveland's Bradenton Adult Day Training (ADT) Program. Proceeds from Disco Bingo will help participants build life skills, strengthen independence, and deepen their sense of community. Events like these are essential in showing the people we support in our community with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities how strongly the Manatee County community supports them, their dreams, and the programs that help them achieve their goals.

Pine specialists such as Brown-headed Nuthatch reside here, as do scarcer Northern Bobwhite, Wild Turkey, and many other fun birds. The open habitats today offer good photo ops, as well.There is no fee to visit the park, nor is there infrastructure beyond dirt roads (translated: No Restrooms).This is a Members Only Event – Registration HERE is required.

Boat tours to Roberts Bay Rookery inVenice on the Carefree Learner. See hundreds of nesting herons, egrets, spoonbills and more.The boat is docked near downtown Sarasota, south of Marina Jack's restaurant. Take Ringling Blvd., off 41/Tamiami Trail, toward the water and into the parking lot. Our boat, the Carefree Learner, is docked next to La Barge, the big boat with mermaids and palm trees. This is near O'Leary's Tiki Bar and Grill. There is a public restroom next to O'Leary's.  There are no facilities on the boat! Reservations are required for this event. Jenny will discuss Purple Martins and why we have the nesting boxes on site in the first place. We may even have the opportunity to see the birds for inspiration during class! Jenny will teach how to draw 2-3 additional birds as well as a variety of Florida animals as time allows. A nature journal is a lens that focuses your attention, enriches your experiences, and develops your skills as a naturalist. This practice also enhances your observations, curiosity, and joy. Nature Journaling can consist of field notes, field sketches, observations, thoughts, feelings, or anything that captures your curiosity. Jenny Cherry was a featured artist at the Nature Center in May 2023. She is a graduate of the Ringling College of Art and Design and an avid illustrator of portraits and landscapes.
